On the Birth Anniversary of Sir George Everest the Uttarakhand Tourism Development Board is celebrating the George Everest Day from 3rd to 4th of July in Mussoorie, Uttarakhand by celebrating his work and contribution in India and areas around.
Sir George Everest who was the Surveyor General of India from 1830 to 1843, was born on 4 July 1790, has contributed a lot in doing the Trigonometric Survey of India. He was responsible for surveying the Meridian Arc from the southernmost point of India north to Nepal, a distance of about 2,400 km. He was honoured by having the Mount Everest, the Highest Mountain in the World, named after him.
