Taking its seat on the serpentine Mussoorie road, Shri Prakasheshwar Mahadev Temple locally known as Shiv Mandir is a popular Shiva temple of Dehradun. Many Shiva devotees and Shaivism followers visit this shrine to seek the blessings of Mahadev. The temple complex has a Shivalinga installed in it, under the shade of an old tree and the divine effigy of Lord Shiva can be seen enshrined in the sanctum sanctorum of the temple.

The temple doesn’t offer donations and offerings so don’t upset the temple priests by taking any sort of thing to present here. Pooja and Artis are held every day at the premises of the temple and on special occasions such as Shivratri and Sawan, a mass feast or ‘bhandara’ is organised and prasad is distributed among the people. The temple follows the tradition of distributing bhaang as prasad on the auspicious festival of Shivratri.

There are few teacups kept above the water filter, which you have to wash before and after drinking tea. The visitors can sip the aromatic tea and have a gorgeous vista of the dusty mountains from here. There is also an ice-cream parlour adjacent to the temple which serves flavorsome ice creams at pocket-friendly prices but beware of the monkey menace. The Maggi lovers can hit the Maggi Points that are located nearby. Shiv Mandir is situated at Kuthal Gate on Mussoorie road. It is located at a distance of 13 km from Dehradun Clock Tower. This sacred Hindu shrine of Dehradun can be reached by taking the Rajpur road bus. The nearest railhead is Dehradun railway station at 15 km away. Jolly Grant airport at 41 km away is the closest air connectivity from here.
