Sahastradhara ‘The Thousand Fold Spring’

Sahastradhara which literally suggests the ‘thousand fold spring’ is one of the popular tourist attractions of Dehradun. It is set in the lavish vistas of Dehradun, exhibiting the aesthetic beauty of nature where water drips from the limestone stalactites, making the water sulphur abundant. Flanked by the meandering Baldi River and caves on each side, Sahastradhara has a depth of 9 metres and is renowned for its natural beauty. Many people having skin ailments come here to bathe in the sulphur springs, which are believed to have medicinal properties that cure several skin diseases.

At Sahastradhara you can see the age-old temple of Lord Shiva along with Guru Dronacharya’s cave which gives a mythical and historical background to the place. Many people visit the Shiva temple to pay obeisance to the deity.

How to reach Sahastradhara

Sahastradhara idyllically situated on Sahastradhara road is located about 15 km from the city center and can be reached either by bus or auto. This popular picnic place is located at a distance of 60 km from Rishikesh, about 68 km from Haridwar and around 260 km from Delhi. Dehradun railway station at 14 km away from Sahastradhara is the nearest railhead and Jolly Grant at 36 km away is the closest airport.
