Nestled in the idyllic surroundings of Dehradun, Wadia Institute of Himalayan Geology is one of the most sought after institutes of India. Founded in June 1968 the Wadia Institute is an autonomous research institution of the Department of Science & Technology, Govt. of India. Initially started as a small nucleus in the two rooms of the Botany Department housed by the Delhi University, the institute was later shifted to Dehradun in April 1976. Formerly named as the Institute of Himalayan Geology, the college got its new identity as ‘Wadia Institute of Himalayan Geology’ in the memory of its founder late Prof. D.N. Wadia (F.R.S. and National Professor), to honour his contributions made for the geology of the Himalayas.
In the bygone years, the institute has developed as a Global Leader and the centre of excellence in the Himalayan Geology. It is recognized as a National Laboratory of International repute having well-equipped laboratories and other infrastructure facilities for undertaking an advance level of research in the country. The Wadia Institute has a staff of dedicated and tenacious professionals including 54 scientists, 48 technical and 76 administration & supporting staff.
