About Madu Siddh history and mythology
It is believed that Lord Dattatreya’s 84 disciples indulged in a prolonged penance at various places in North India to appease Lord Shiva. Being pleased with their devotion, Lord Shiva blessed them with the gift of enlightened, after which they abandoned their bodies at the place of meditation. To pay homage to four such disciples, the four Siddhs were built at different places in Dehradun. These four Siddhs are made at the four solitary places in Dehradun, particularly Kalu Siddh in the east of Dehradun, Laxman Siddh in south, Manak Siddh in the west and Mandu Siddh in the north. Many devotees throng these places in order to seek blessings for the fulfilment of their wishes. When the wishes of the devotees come true they arrange a mass feast or ‘Bhandara’ at the temple.
