The Uttarakhand has recently decided to work on the expansion project of the Jolly Grant Airport in Dehradun. The Project will soon be started by the Trivendra Singh Rawat Government. Due to an increase in the number of passengers in the last couple of years at The Jolly Grant Airport the state authorities have started a talk with the Airports Authority of India (AAI).
The Jolly Grant Airport expansion will be focused on building a state-of-the-art facility, parking lots for planes, longer airstrip and multi-level parking for cars. The government will be acquiring the forest and farm land that is adjoining the Jolly Grant Airport. According to Om Prakash, Additional Chief Secretary, that recently 15 cities of Uttarakhand have been included under Ude Desh Ka Aam Nagrik (UDAN) scheme. The chief objective of the Government is to provide people with better facilities to the passengers. Being the major yoga centre and adventure sports destination, Uttarakhand will be noticing an increase in the number of passengers in the coming years.
Highlights of Jolly Grant Airport Expansion
- Having a state-of-art infrastructure facilities for passengers, Multi-Level Parking for cars, Longer Airstrips.
- After the expansion the Jolly Grant Airport will have the capacity to park 5 air planes, however it is unlikely that the international flights will land here after the expansion is done.
- The state civil aviation guest house, office and hangar maybe shifted to another location.
