Wadia Institute of Himalayan Geology (WIHG) is a prestigious research institute for Himalayan Geology in Dehradun. It is an autonomous institute of Department of Science & Technology under Ministry of Science & Technology, Govt of India.

WIHG was established in June 1968 in the botany department of  Delhi University, later the Institute was shifted to Dehradun, Uttarakhand in April 1976. It was previously named as Institute of Himalayan Geology and renamed in the memory of its founder – Late Prof. D. N. Wadia (F.R. S & National Professor).  At present the Institute has on its roll 54 scientist, 48 technical & 76 administrations and other supporting staff.

Institute is also operating following field research stations in the remote areas of Himalayas:  Naddi-Dharamsala (Seismic Observatory Array),  Dokriani Bamak, U.P (Glacier Station),  Itanagar (Arunachal Pradesh)

Apart from various projects running at WIHG Dehradun, there are some attractions in the institute campus.

S.P.Nautiyal Museum

The museum is the education wing of the institute showcasing the activities of the institute and Himalayan geology, origin of Himalaya, its evolution, natural resources, changes in environment etc. The education museum attracts large number of students from schools, colleges, universities and it has also recieved guests from different countries too.
